THE DARK SIDE OF MOTHER'S DAY...
Most of us will wake up and celebrate Mother's Day in some way today...whether it's to visit an in law, call a child, a grand parent, your own parent or maybe you are one, there's a dark side to mother's day as well.
Perhaps you're someone who's child passed away this year, you've given your child up for adoption, you've miscarried, or your children don't speak to you, I just want to acknowledge you too. My youngest son will celebrate with me today, but I also have a daughter that is 25 years old and at the moment is actively choosing not to talk to me. Not for lack of me trying, but I firmly believe that for her right now it is much easier for her to avoid me than it is to be accountable for her latest behavior. I also recognize that I am not responsible for her adult decisions. She has to own this choice and I respect her wish to take some time away in spite of whatever personal feelings I may have on the matter.
No matter what our journey to and through motherhood looks like, it's imperfect because we are. Being fallible is part of being a parent. It's hard, and while the world is out today posting happy pictures, if you can't muster the energy to do the same for whatever your reason....I just want to say, I see you and my heart is with you!
Until next time... -S.
